First & 10: Ten Thoughts on the World of Football

So long professor. It is truly a sad in the NFL Insider world.

By John Sarianides

1.I believe Tom Brady is the 21st most popular athlete in the world. Most of the world despises him. It really is not a surprise. People hate winners.

2.ESPN firing John Clayton is further proof that sports talk nowadays is more about obnoxious, dumb takes now than it is about content.

3. The 49ers keep working out all of these veterans. Do they plan on signing any of them?

4. The NFLPA is advising players to save their money before the current CBA expires in four years. Apparently they are anticipating a work stoppage. O.K. That’s a bit presumptuous don’t you think? It is also a sign that the union is digging in its heels and preparing to strike.

5.  I don’t understand why the Redskins are so willing to move on from Matt Jones? I get the emergence of Robert Kelley and drafting Samaje Perine but you could never have enough running backs in the NFL. It is senseless to cut or trade a young back who still has upside.

6.How the hell did Mark Sanchez get hurt in an OTA practice? Seriously. It’s OTA’s! At least its not serious and the veteran back up will be back for training camp.

7. While I think it is noble that Torrey Smith is coming to the defense of ex-teammate Colin Kaepernick. It doesn’t mean squat. Owners and general managers alike have already formulated an opinion of Kaepernick and it is not favorable.

8. Derek Carr has given the Raiders an ultimatum. He wants a new deal before the start of camp or else he will break talks off and play under the final year of his rookie deal. If I were Raiders owner Mark Davis, I would get a deal done with Carr before he hits the market. It will get much tougher to get it done in the off-season.

9.  Texas A&M athletic director Scott Woodward told ESPN”s Paul Finebaum yesterday that coach Kevin Sumlin “Knows he has to win this year” WOW. So Woodward basically put Sumlin on notice. I tend to agree with Woodward. Sumlin has a 44-21 record at A&M but is only 21-19 against the SEC. That is not good enough at a program like Texas A&M. Sumlin’s seat is officially hot right now.

10. I must admit. I am a big fan of Boise State’s new unis for the upcoming season. I like the whole Blue Collar mantra. Here’s what they look like.
