Final NEPSAC Top 20 Poll

The NEPSAC Football season wrapped up last weekend and it was one of the best seasons in the history the conference. Tabor Academy was our number one team wire to wire and Jeff Moore’s squad looked like the best in New England.

Avon Old Farms was right there with them and went undefeated for the first time since 1991.

Several programs had breakout seasons including: St. Mark’s, Pingree and Rivers. The Berkshire School capped off a terrific season by going 8-1 and winning the Bob Souza Bowl.

For our season ending poll, we have decided to do a Top 20 poll as our final poll.

Here is our final NEPSAC Poll of the season.

1. Tabor Academy (9-0): Seawolves proved they were the best team in New England with a convincing win over BB&N in the John Papas Bowl. They will be just as good next season.

2. Avon Old Farms(10-0): A season to remember for Jon Wholley’s squad. Capped off by an impressive win in the Drew Gamere Bowl over Williston. Matthew Baer returns next season to spearhead what should be a good offense and a good team all-around.

3. Choate Rosemary Hall (8-2): Remember when the Boars were young? No anymore. C.J Spinnato and his staff did a great job with this team and they will be a power player again next season in Class A and the Founders League.

4. Milton Academy (7-2): Mike Mason’s Mustangs were consistent all season long and they capped off a terrific season with an impressive win over Brunswick in the Kevin MacDonald Bowl. Several key players graduate but the Mustangs return a lot as well.

5. Cheshire Academy (7-3): Cheshire flew under the radar at times but played their best football down the stretch and won the Danny Smith Bowl. Quarterback Keegan Croucher returns to lead what should be a talented team next season.

6. BB&N (6-3): The Knights had a terrific season. Let’s put it in perspective. Their three losses were to Avon Old Farms and Tabor twice. The two best teams in New England, in any conference

7. Phillips Exeter (6-3): After losing in a shootout to Choate in the Leon Modeste Bowl, the Lions will look to rebound next season with a talented team returning.

8. Williston-Northampton (7-3): Tough finish to the season, losing to Avon Old Farms but the Wildcats still accomplished plenty and should be in the mix again next season in Class A, NEFC.

9. Dexter Southfield (7-3): You can make a case Dexter played one of the best schedules in New England. Winning seven games against a brutal slate like that is an impressive feat for Casey Day’s squad.

10. Rivers (8-1): Terrific season for a program that has flown under the radar at times this season. Winning the John MacKay Bowl against a good Kingswood team was the exclamation point.

11. Berkshire School (8-1): Great season for Tim Cary’s squad capped off by a gutsy win in the Bob Souza Bowl.

12. Canterbury School (7-2): The Saints beat St. Mark’s in the Joe Lang Bowl and return a good core next season to make another run in the Class C Evergreen.

13. Kingswood-Oxford (8-2): Great season for the Wyverns despite falling short in the John Mackay Bowl.

14. Brunswick School (6-4): Brunswick lost a tough one to Milton in the Kevin MacDonald Bowl but the Bruins still had a good season despite playing one of the best schedules in New England.

15. St. Mark’s (7-2): Despite losing in the Joe Lang Bowl, the school first bowl appearance. It was a great season for Kenny Goodwin’s squad.

16. Pingree (6-2): Pingree was in bowl contention all the way to the end and had a solid bounce back season.

17. Nobles & Greenough (5-3): Jim O’Leary did a great job of getting Nobles back on track in yesterday’s one. A program to watch moving forward.

18. Worcester Academy (5-3): Another program to keep an eye on. Worcester has the facilities and the returning talent to continue to compete.

19. Portsmouth Abbey (4-4): Stanley Dunbar will build a good program at PA. This season was just the beginning.

20. Austin Prep (5-3): It has not been an easy road for Austin Prep since joining the NEPSAC ranks but the program is going in the right direction.
