Dime Package: Ten Thoughts on the World of Football

A Spurrier, Tebow partnership in Orlando is not going to happen.

It’s officially the dead period in football now. NFL OTA’s and mini camps have wrapped up and college programs are on break before summer workouts commence. That doesn’t mean there isn’t football news to talk about.

Here ten thoughts on what is going on in the football world.

1. The Bucs will not make the playoffs and it will be because of the immaturity and selfishness of Jameis Winston.

2. Steve Spurrier reached out to former Florida quarterback and current Mets outfielder Tim Tebow to play for him on his AAF team in Orlando. Tebow declined. I’m not surprised. Tebow has accepted that his football playing days are over.

3. Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell was quoted in the Boston Herald as saying “we’ll see” when he was asked if he’ll be ready for camp. Mitchell has been strictly conditioning since missing all of last season with a knee injury. The Patriots need Mitchell back. Especially with Julian Edelman facing a four game suspension.

4. Former Colts and Saints tight end Coby Fleener is still dealing with concussion symptoms from a concussion he sustained in November.

The Saints released Fleener in May. Fleener says he still wants to play but he hasn’t been cleared. Why would he still want to play? It makes no sense! I hope people around him encourage Fleener to retire. The long term risks of him continuing to play are grave.

5. Lamar Jackson said a Chargers scout told him the team had an interest in him as a receiver. That’s absurd! The young man deserves the opportunity to prove he can play quarterback.

6. I agree with the NFL. Laurant Duvernay-Tardif, M.D would look stupid on the back of a jersey.

7. Why are people surprised that Alabama will make more money than Louisville in the kick off game between the two teams? Alabama generates way more revenue and has more of a national profile. It makes total sense!

8. Mike Leach has been battling USA Today columnist Dan Wolken on twitter all week. It has been a fascinating back and forth. Here are Leach’s thoughts on Wolken. It’s laugh out loud stuff.

9. Eli Manning reassured Giants fans this week that his career is not over. Thanks Eli! We know. That’s why you are still the Giants quarterback. They still believe in you. For now.

10. Odell Beckham Jr was encouraged by Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio to hold out this week. Let that sink in for a second.
