Dime Package: Ten Thoughts On the Week That Was in College Football

Week two was highlighted by Kansas and Kentucky snapping two of college football’s longest losing streaks with wins over Central Michigan and Florida respectively.

Here are ten thoughts on the week that was.

1.After beating USC, Stanford is for real but I can still see them tripping up. Oregon maybe?

2. Michigan State cost themselves a shot at the college football playoff by losing to Arizona State. No offense to Herm Edwards team but that is a bad loss for Sparty.

3. The Chipper (Chip Kelly) is going to endure a long season in Westwood. He does not have the requisite pieces to run his spread offense at UCLA right now.

4. Purdue losing to Eastern Michigan is unacceptable and a set back for Jeff Brohm and his staff as they try to change the culture in West Lafayette.

5. Kevin Sumlin’s tenure at Arizona is off to a horrific start after Saturday’s 45-18 loss to Houston. Arizona is awful defensively and Khalil Tate does not look comfortable in Noel Mazzone’s offense.

6. Central Florida gets a lot of mid-major love and rightfully so but don’t forget about South Florida who looked very impressive in 49-38 win over Georgia Tech.

7. It took beating a MAC school in Central Michigan but Kansas finally won a road game for the first time since 2009. Congrats (I guess) to coach David Beatty and the Jayhawks.

8. Leave it to long time Nebraska nemesis Colorado to ruin Scott Frost’s debut in Lincoln. The Buffs looked impressive in their 33-28 win.

9. I can’t say I’m surprised that Texas A&M went toe to toe with Clemson. Jimbo Fisher knows the Tigers well but A&M is also talented enough to hang with Clemson.

10. Hat tip to Mark Stoops and his Kentucky Wildcats for ending a 31 game losing streak to Florida. The Cats hadn’t won in the Swamp since 1979. It was a big program win for Stoops.
