Not a ton of movement this week in the latest Connecticut state rankings, as the top teams have definitely separated themselves through seven weeks. Killingly and Greenwich did flip-flop positions, however, with Killingly moving up to their highest spot of the season at No. 2, while Greenwich drops one spot to No. 3.
Southington is the only new addition to the poll, checking in at No. 23, while West Haven is out after a 21-0 loss to Amity.
1. New Canaan (7-0): The No. 1 New Canaan Rams’ dominance continued with a 42-7 rout over Stamford this past weekend. They’re at No. 13 Staples this Friday.
2. Killingly (7-0): The Trail Blazers just keep rolling, putting up 60 points in a win over Griswold. They host Norwich Free Academy on Friday.
3. Greenwich (6-1): Greenwich used a big fourth quarter against Ludlowe to earn a 41-14 win on Saturday. They end their season facing Wilston, Darien, and Staples.
4. Windsor (7-0): Anthony Robinson and company are in cruise control, having outscored their opponents 219-7 over their last four games. They’ll get a test on Friday at No. 23 Southington.
5. Fairfield Prep (6-1): When you have a good kicker, it helps you win close games. Ben Cornelius hit the game-winning 27-yard field goal in this past weekend’s 10-7 win over North Haven.
6. Wilton (7-0): Wilton picked up a 49-28 win over a solid Warde team last week. They’ll have their stiffest test of the season on Friday when they host No. 3 Greenwich.
7. Hand (6-1): The Hand Tigers outscored their two opponents, Shelton and Xacier 113-23 prior to its bye this past weekend. They return with a tough game against No. 5 Fairfield Prep this Friday.
8. St. Joseph (5-2): St. Joe’s was impressive in a 27-6 win over No. 13 Staples last week. Another challenge awaits on Saturday when they welcome No. 19 Ludlowe.
9. New Britain (6-1): New Britain is running through the CCC, most recently picking up a 30-28 come-from-behind victory against a tough Maloney Spartans team this past Friday. They host Platt this Friday.
10. Berlin (7-1): The Redcoats had their closest game of the season last week, still beating Enfield handily in a driving rainstorm, 24-8. They will host Farmington on Friday.
11. Newtown (5-2): Since suffering losses to Hand and Windsor in the first three weeks of the season, Newton has won four-straight including wins over Brookfield and Bunnell. They host Bethel this Friday.
12. Cheshire (5-2): The Rams won their third game in a row, easily disposing of Hillhouse last week, 35-6. They will host No. 21 Sheehan on Friday.
13. Staples (5-2): After a 4-0 start which included a commanding 31-6 win over Darien, Staples has lost two of its last three games. St. Joseph handed them a 27-6 loss and shut their offense down for three quarters. They host No. 1 New Canaan this Friday.
14. Darien (5-2): The Blue Wave bounced back from their second loss of the season with a 28-0 win over Trumbull. They will host No. 22 Ridgefield on Friday.
15. Brookfield (5-2): Following its 21-7 loss to Newtown last week, Brookfield responded with a 27-0 shutout against Notre Dame-Prep. They’re at New Milford this Friday.
16. Bunnell (5-2): Another lopsided win for Bunnell, as they took care of Bethel, 42-0. They host Pomperaug on Friday.
17. Maloney (5-2): Maloney’s tough schedule has caught up to them in recent weeks. They recently gave up a 21-0 lead to New Britain in a 30-28 loss and suffered a 24-6 defeat to Fairfield Prep a few weeks ago. They host Glastonbury this Friday.
18. Glastonbury (4-3): Glastonbury bounced from an overtime loss to New Britain with a 27-7 win over Hall. They have a big test on Friday at No. 17 Maloney.
19. Ludlowe (5-2): Ludlowe played Greenwich competitively for much of Saturday’s game before a big fourth quarter by the Cardinals resulted in a 41-14 win over Ludlowe. Ludlowe, dropping to 5-2, faces St. Joseph on the road this Saturday morning.
20. Woodland (7-0): Woodland continues to roll through the NVL, beating Wolcott 68-0. The Hawks’ closest margin of victory this season is 21 points. They are at Holy Cross on Thursday.
21. Sheehan (6-1): Since getting routed by Fairfield Prep early in the season, Sheehan has won five-straight games. They have a big test this Friday on the road at No. 12 Cheshire.
22. Ridgefield (5-2): Ridgefield made it back-to-back shutouts with a 35-0 win over McMahon last week. They are at No. Darien on Friday.
23. Southington (4-3): Southington sneaks back into the top-25 with a lopsided 48-14 win over the Platt Panthers. Southington is still without starting quarterback Luke Prozzo and running back Nick Andrews. They host No. 4 Windsor this Friday.
24. North Haven (3-4): North Haven took No. 5 Fairfield Prep to the brink, falling 10-7. They host New London on Friday.
25. Law (6-1): Since its 49-21 loss to No. 2 Killingly, Law has won five-straight, and sits at 6-1. They host Hamden this Friday.
