College Football: Ten Thoughts On The Week That Was

Here ten thoughts I have on Week 5 of the college football season.

1. I often wonder if Chip Kelly regrets taking the UCLA job. I don’t care what anyone says. Being 0-4 has to hurt Kelly’s pride.

2. No I don’t think coaches should put their hands on their players. Jimbo Fisher was in the wrong. Should he be reprimanded? Yes. Fired? No! That’s foolish.

3. I can’t believe Alabama only Louisiana by 42 points. I took the Tide who were favored by 49. WTF!!

4. Clemson survived against Syracuse but don’t you get the sense the Tigers are going to trip up somewhere along the way? They are not a national title contender. Especially with their defense struggling.

5. Don’t sleep on West Virginia as a possible playoff contender. The Mountaineers slapped 42 points on a pretty good Texas Tech defense.

6. Remember when Scott Frost intimated last week in his post game press conference that Purdue might be a winnable game. How did that work out?

7. Old Dominion beat Virginia Tech last week and proceeded to lose to East Carolina this week. Yeah. That makes sense.

8. In my heart of hearts, I knew Mississippi State was fraudulent but I believed the hype. Now they’ve lost two in a row.

9. Ohio State won a game they needed to win in order to have a shot at making the college football playoff. As long as they take care of business moving forward, they should get in.

10. Don’t pencil in Notre Dame for the college football playoff quite yet. The win over Stanford was impressive but they still have a couple of trap games left on the schedule starting this week at Virginia Tech.
