Penn State and Norte Dame announced their presence with impressive wins over Michigan and USC this weekend.

Here are my thoughts on Week 8. 

1. Is it possible to feel bad for Jimbo Fisher and Florida State? After years of dominating the ACC and winning a national championship in 2014, they look awful right now. I don’t see them making a bowl game. They have to win four of their last five. Not going to happen. 

2. Has anyone been paying attention to the job Matt Campbell has done at Iowa State? The “basketball” school’s football program is 5-2. The Cyclones are good people. 

3. Oklahoma State squeaking by Texas says more about the Longhorns than the Cowboys. Texas is talented but inexperienced. They are not quite ready to win yet. 

4. Tennessee can’t fire Butch Jones this week. He lost to Alabama. Everyone loses to Alabama!

5. Everyone is focusing on Ohio State, Penn State in the Big Ten East but don’t sleep on Michigan State. Sparty is still flying under the radar.

6. Speaking of the Big Ten East. Penn State avenged their 49-10 loss at Michigan last year by thrashing the Wolverines 42-13. They have an even bigger test this week when they travel to Columbus to battle an Ohio State team that needs to win to keep their conference title hopes and playoff hopes alive. Penn State is good but if they want to win, they must pass this big test. 

7. Oklahoma still has a shot at getting into the College Football playoff. They need to beat Oklahoma State in two weeks and get into the inaugural Big 12 Championship game and win it. If those two things happen, I think they are in. If they don’t happen, they will be playing in the Cotton Bowl.

8. Arizona State has quietly turned things around. Todd Graham was on the hot seat going into this season but thanks to the PAC-12 being down this season, Graham has taken advantage and in the process may have saved his job. Same goes for Rich Rod in Tucson. Arizona is 5-2. 

9. I can’t believe there are people in the national media that don’t think Notre  Dame is worthy of consideration for the college football playoff. Are you kidding me? Losing a three point game to Georgia and trouncing USC is proof the Irish are more tan worthy of consideration. They are a good football team America! Get off of Brian Kelly’s back. 

10. “San Diego State is this season’s Western Michigan” That was me two weeks ago. Since then, the Aztecs are 0-2.
