Some thoughts on the week that was in college football.
1. I can live with Alabama, Miami, Oklahoma and Clemson for now but I have a feeling that will change drastically in the next three weeks. I still think Wisconsin is getting screwed.
2. I like Ohio State but even if they win out, I don’t think they should get into the college football playoff. They’ve lost two games including an ugly loss to Iowa.
3. Speaking of Iowa, they beat the hell out of Ohio State at home but lose to Purdue. Huh???
4. Texas winning at West Virginia was a big program win for Tom Herman and his staff. It is never easy to win in Morgantown.
5. Pat Fitzgerald should get some national coach of the year votes for the job he has done at Northwestern this season. The Cats have put a scare into Wisconsin and Penn State this season.
6. Michigan’s loss to Wisconsin illustrates just how little skill Jim Harbaugh has recruited to Ann Arbor. The Wolverines lack of a big play threat offensively has been abundantly obvious this season.
7. Has anyone east of the Mississippi noticed the job Jeff Tedford has done at Fresno State? The Bulldogs are 8-3 after their win over Wyoming last weekend. The once proud program has life again.
8. UMass beating BYU in Provo is a great win for Mark Whipple and the Minutemen and an embarrassing loss for Kilani Sitake and the Cougars. Losses like that get you fired.
9. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Until Mike Gundy and his staff fix the defense in Stillwater, Oklahoma State will never contend for a national title.
10. It is down to Florida and UCLA for Chip Kelly. If I were Kelly, I would take the UCLA job. It is a no brainer. Kelly already has recruiting ties in California and he is familiar with the PAC-12.
