Patriots: Belichick in midseason form with the media on Wednesday, dodges all QB questions

September 1, 2021

Nothing says football season like Bill Belichick dodging and weaving questions like Muhammed Ali in his prime. At 8 A.M. on Wednesday upwards of 80 media members joined the Zoom call for Coach Belichick hoping to get at least a little bit of insight into the decision to release Cam Newton while keeping Mac Jones as the starting quarterback. Instead, there was some extremely awkward vaccination conversations and a clear…

The decision to cut Cam Newton sent shockwaves around the NFL world yesterday but when you look at the Patriots situation more closely, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the team decided to move on from the veteran signal caller. Bill Belichick made the decision to go with Mac Jones for a myriad of reasons. One of them is the supporting cast he assembled around him. Belichick built a…

Patriots: Patriots surprise the football world by releasing Cam Newton

The Patriots are releasing Cam Newton in a surprising move. Newton, who signed as a free agent last summer and started 15 games in 2020, re-signed this off-season. He played in all three preseason games and appeared to be the projected starter going into the season. The move was unexpected, especially because Newton looked more comfortable in the Patriots system this off season. He played well in the Patriots pre-season…

Patriots: Strong showing from Asiasi could help take pressure off Pats receivers

Raise your hand if you thought Devin Asiasi would make a case for regular targets in the offense during the preseason finale against the Giants on Sunday. You’re a liar if you raised your hand. In the 22-20 win over the Giants, Asiasi showed serious flashes as a guy that could be depended on in the passing game, a huge development for whoever is under center when the Dolphins come…

If you watched JJ Taylor at all during training camp or in any of the three preseasons games and don’t think he deserves a spot on this team I’m not sure what to tell you. Heart, toughness, speed, elusiveness, versatility. It’s all there. The 5’6, 185 lb. back had 140 total yards on Sunday night in the Patriots 22-20 win over the Giants to close out the preseason 3-0. Taylor…

Patriots: Matthew Judon proving he was worth big contract before the regular season even begins

It’s rare that a player signs with a team in the offseason and has an immediate impact before a meaningful down is played, but it’s happened with Matthew Judon. In his short time here, Judon has brought an attitude and swagger that has rubbed off on the defense and younger players. Judon has looked like an elite player well worth his big free agent contract and has already earned the…

Patriots: What to watch for in the final preseason game vs. the New York Giants

Only 60 minutes stand between the Patriots and the end of the preseason. Mercifully. Sunday night’s preseason game against the Giants (6:30 p.m., WBZ) is the final tuneup before beginning preparation for the Miami Dolphins in arguably one of the most anticipated seasons in recent history. Roster spots are still on the line, the quarterback situation is still a complete mind-bleep, the cornerback questions without Gilmore remain plentiful and what…

Patriots: Uche, Winovich hoping to be a nightmare tandem for offenses this season

If Stephon Gilmore sits out half the season – which is looking more likely by the day – then the linebackers and defensive lineman will obviously need to be better this year and minimize time the secondary spends in coverage. So far, Josh Uche has been a force this month along with Matthew Judon and Chrisitan Barmore whether it’s 1-on-1 drills or competitive snaps. All three have showed glimpses of…

We’re on to the regular season. Well, sort of. The Patriots will have a light practice on Friday before officially finishing the preseason with one more game against the Giants on Sunday night in New Jersey. For all intents and purposes, Thursday was the final day of training camp since Friday will be an unpadded walkthrough. After Sunday, it’ll be all eyes on Miami with the season set to start…
