We had a chance to catch up with UConn commit JD Brown. Brown who committed to the Huskies on Thursday. The South Walton High School (Fla) senior quarterback threw for 2,558 yards and 29 touchdown passes as a junior. Standing at 6’3, 195, Brown has good size and athleticism. He has plus arm talent and can make plays out of the pocket as well.

Brown is excited to be a Husky in the future and he shared his thoughts with us in this interview.

NEFJ: Why did you ultimately commit to UConn? What appealed to you about the program and the school?

JB: “I chose to commit to UConn because right from the start when I first met Coach Nunz and Coach Blackwell when they came to watch me throw in the spring, we really connected and they went into detail on how they would coach and develop me. When I got to actually see the school and meet everyone on my OV it just really felt like home to me.”

NEFJ: Has Candle or Coach Campanile given you any indication of when you might get a chance to play?

JB: “Not really. I’m really just focused on working as hard as possible and being coached as hard as possible and developing. If I do all of that, then the playing time will come.”

NEFJ: How important is it to you to finish your high school career off the right way? Both for you and South Walton.

JB: “It means everything to me. I love my team and hometown We were 2-8 my sophomore year and then went 8-4 last year. We have a chance to make a deep run in the playoffs this year and I’m looking forward to it.”

NEFJ: How much of a role did your coaches and family play in your decision to commit to UConn?

JB: “My parents and coaches were very supportive during my recruitment and helped me with all the pros and cons.”

NEFJ: What are you looking forward to the most once you get on campus and settle in?

JB: “I’m looking forward to meeting and getting to know all of my teammates and going back to the dairy bar!”

NEFJ: How cool is it to finally realize your dream of playing Division One College Football?

JB: “It’s very cool! I’m really excited and have worked nonstop to get this opportunity. But I know I’ve got to continue working hard and can’t wait to get up there and do so.”
