On Wednesday night, Cam Monteiro revealed his college decision, which he made earlier in the week.
The Brockton wide receiver announced his verbal commitment to Pittsburgh, which is increasingly getting more and more active in Massachusetts recruiting.
We learned earlier in the week that Monteiro made his intentions known to coach Pat Narduzzi and the Panthers’ staff. Then, Wednesday at Brockton High’s gym, Monteiro made his pledge public.
The commitment comes as part of a Pittsburgh class that — for the class of 2024 — is currently in the top 15 in the country in 247sports.com‘s composite team rankings.
On Twitter leading up to the pick, Monteiro said his top three schools were Pitt, Kentucky, and Virginia. Even though Monteiro had an offer from Boston College, the Eagles did not make the cut.
While that serves as some surprise, it came as no shock that Monteiro chose Pitt. The Panthers have Samuel Okonlola, a Brockton native who attended Thayer Academy. Pitt was also very involved in the recruitment of Xaverian offensive lineman Jon Mould, who picked Harvard last year.
Monteiro is one of the most intriguing prospects in New England. A starter at Brockton since his freshman year, Monteiro blew up last season as both a receiver and single-wing quarterback. He finished with over 1,500 yards rushing, passing, and receiving. He finished with 23 combined touchdowns in explosive fashion.
Also a star basketball player for Brockton, Monteiro has not come close to what his true ceiling actually is. With his reps at other positions, he is not yet a truly polished route runner.
At 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, Monteiro has room to get bigger. He’s explosive, and has terrific after-the-catch ability.
Now, Monteiro can concentrate on helping Brockton take the next step in the inaugural season for first-year coach Jermaine Wiggins.
