Bill O’Brien has hired a familiar name as his chief of staff for the Boston College Football program. Former Patriots executive administrator to the head coach and Bill Belichick right hand man, Berj Najarian.

Najarian joined the Patriots in 2000 after spending five years with the New York Jets’ public relations department. He is a Boston University alum.

Najarian spent 24 years with the Patriots assisting Belichick in a variety of roles. Their offices were adjacent to each other. O’Brien once referred to Najarian as the Patriots consigliere.

In 2005, Najarian was named director of football/head coach administration for New England. He oversaw the day-to-day operations of the organization and served as a liaison between the football and non-football departments.

Belichick leaned heavily on Najarian. His responsibilities included football and stadium operations, scheduling requests, communication between players and staff, as well as special projects in both coaching and personnel. He was seen everywhere with Belichick.

Now he will be O’Brien’s top aide on the operation side of things at the Heights.

O’Brien has assembled an experienced staff and adding Najarian to that staff only bolsters the group further. Landing Najarian is a coup for Boston College.
