BC, UConn both going bowling on December 28th

The Eagles and Huskies will keep New England college football fans busy on Saturday, December 28.

It was officially announced on Sunday that BC will be facing Nebraska in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium at noon on ABC. One hour earlier, UConn will be ‘hosting’ North Carolina in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl that’s set to kickoff at 11 a.m. on ESPN.

For BC, this is the third time the program will play in the Bronx, losing the previous two Pinstripe Bowls in 2014 (overtime vs. Penn State) and 2017 (seven-point loss to Iowa). This is also the eighth time in nine years the Eagles have been bowl eligible. At 7-5, BC has a chance to win eight games for the first time since 2009.

“I am excited for our team to be heading to New York for the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl,” BC head coach Bill O’Brien said in a statement. “Boston College is well-represented in New York City and the tri-state area, so to have the opportunity to play in the Northeast, where so many of our fans and alumni call home, is an honor. We look forward to the challenge of competing against the storied Nebraska program.”

Meanwhile, UConn’s best season since 2010 (8-4) has the Huskies in a bowl game for the second time in three years under Jim Mora. Mora’s Huskies are seeking the first bowl game win since the 2009 season (2010 bowl season) when the UConn beat South Carolina 20-7 in the PapaJohn’s.com Bowl.

“We’re excited to represent UConn at this year’s Wasabi Fenway Bowl, and to have the opportunity to compete at such an iconic venue against a quality opponent like North Carolina,” Jim Mora said in a statement. “The chance to play in Boston will give our players, Marching Band, Cheer Squad, students, fans and all of UConn Nation the chance to share in an unforgettable experience close to home. We are excited to take the field at Fenway Park, where the rich history and electric atmosphere provide a perfect stage for us to close out our season”
