Patriots Four Down Preview: New England Patriots (2-0) at New York Giants (2-0)

Kickoff: The Patriots travel to the Meadowlands in New Jersey to take on the New York Giants in the preseason finale for both teams. The Patriots hold wins over the Commanders and Vikings while the Giants have beaten the Bills and Jets.

Here are four keys for the Patriots.

1st Down: Evaluate the back-ups: The Patriots will not play their starters much if at all. The focus will be on the back-ups and the third and fourth stringers to play and make one last ditch effort to make the team. Tonight is strictly an evaluation game for the coaches.

2nd Down: Dugger and Jennings audition for other teams? One has to wonder if tonight is an audition of sorts for safety Kyle Dugger and EDGE Anfernee Jennings for other teams. Given recent reports that the Patriots are shopping the both players, tonight might be their last chance to make a favorable impression for both the Patriots and the league.

3rd Down: Sort out kicking situation: Who will be the Patriots kicker? Parker Romo or Andrew Borregales? Tonight’s game could determine who makes the team. The competition between the two has been neck and neck thus far but tonight could determine who the Patriots keep.

4th Down: Back up quarterback: One would think Josh Dobbs will get the start and Ben Wooldridge will play the majority of the game. Neither has lit the world on fire this preseason but tonight is a good opportunity for them to prove themselves and for the Patriots to see if they need to go in another direction behind Drake Maye.

Extra Point: The Patriots and the Giants will meet for the 32nd time in the preseason, making the team the Patriots’ most frequent preseason opponent. Philadelphia and Washington are tied as the second-most frequent opponents with 25 meetings each.

Final Drive: Evaluate your depth and get out of this game healthy. It is what it is all about tonight and that’s it.
