The Patriots are interviewing three time Super Bowl champion and forker Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel on Thursday.
Vrabel has already interviewed with the Jets and is also scheduled to meet with the Bears, Saints and Raiders. The Raiders could potentially be the Patriots biggest competition with Vrabel’s former teammates Tom Brady and Richard Seymour being minority owners of the team.
The Patriots have inherent advantages over the Raiders with Drake Maye profiling as a franchise quarterback and a projected $131 million dollars in cap space. Vrabel and owner Robert Kraft also have a strong relationship. The Patriots also appear to be Vrabel’s preferred destination.
New England remains the favorite to land Vrabel but they will have competition so it is far from a lock. Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is also scheduled to interview virtually on Thursday.
The Patriots interviewed Byron Leftwich and Pep Hamilton for the job on Tuesday. By all accounts, both had strong interviews. The two interviews also fulfilled the Rooney Rule requirement.
As of now, there are no other interviews set up for Wednesday. The Patriots have not released a list of candidates so they bring other candidates in today.
If all goes according to plan, Vrabel could be named the new head coach by Friday.
