Catching up with Vincent Busa after his commitment to URI

I recently had a chance to catch up with Xaverian running back Vincent Busa on his commitment to Rhode Island. Busa announced his decision on Sunday. I had a chance to talk to Busa about why he committed to URI.

NEFJ: Why did you decide that URI was the right school for you?

VB: “I chose URI because of how important the football program is at there university. Also being able to play for Coach Fleming will be the best experience. I can’t wait for it! ”

NEFJ: Has the coaching staff given you any indication which side of the ball you will play on?

VB: “They believe I am best on the defensive side of the ball but anything can happen, I am a football player so I will play any side on the ball and any position on the field!”

NEFJ: How much of a role did Coach Fornaro and your family play in your decision?

VB: “Coach Fornaro played a major role in my decision because playing for him has given me experience on what it is like to play for a coach where the team means everything. He wants to make sure everyone is putting in there best effort all around the program and I know the whole coaching staff at URI is the exact same way so I am very excited to be apart of that! My parents have helped me so much in so many different ways on getting to be where I am today, They left whichever school I felt best at up to me to decide. My whole family is very supportive of me and excited to now call URI our home!”

NEFJ: How much did playing and going to school at Xaverian prepare you to be a Division One student athlete?

VB: “Playing for Xaverian has been life changing for me in many ways. My teammates who will be my brothers for life mean so much to me and If it wasn’t for Xaverian, I wouldn’t have gotten that experience. Xaverian is a special place because there is tradition established everywhere and the people in the building all care about each other. Playing football helped prepare me for college because of all of our team lifts and intensity in practice. Coach Fornaro is what some people say an old school coach which is true, but really he is only hard on us because he cares about us and wants the best for each of us. Coach Fornaro helped me get ready from not only the playing football aspect of the game but he helped me be coachable. I am very grateful for Coach Fornaro and all of my Xaverian coaches because without them, I would never be where I am today!”

NEFJ: Finally. How cool is it to realize your dream of playing Division One College Football? Has it sunk in yet?

VB: “I am very excited to be playing football for URI, This has been a dream of mine for so long. My family and friends all support me and I seriously wouldn’t have been here without any of them, So I can’t wait to see all of them at the Rhody football games! Go Rams!”
