On Monday night, Patriots tight end Hunter Henry, his wife Parker, former legendary BC linebacker Mark Herzlich and his wife Danielle were in Chestnut Hill to speak to student athletes.

This wasn’t an ordinary sit down or meet-and-greet, it was faith-based discussion conducted by the Christian life group ‘BC Athletics In Action.’ Hunter and Parker have often been very open about their faith on social media and in interviews since he joined the Patriots in 2021. The two – along with the Herzlich’s – were more than happy to spend their time on campus for a few hours.

On Wednesday, I asked Henry about the opportunity and why he wanted to do it.

“It was a cool experience,” he said. “I spoke with the ‘Athletes In Action’ group there, just about my faith, my journey, my testimony. All that God has done in my life to get me to this point, because I wouldn’t be where I am without his faithfulness and without his…just working in my life. So, I was able to kind of communicate that with some of the athletes there and talk about that.”

The Herzlich’s have sort of spearheaded the group at BC and the Henry’s have been able to build a bit of a relationship with them since Henry left the Chargers and joined the Patriots. Henry was thrilled to have his wife by his side for the evening and happy to just sort of lift up some spirits if they needed lifting.

With the fall sports seasons winding down and exam time around the corner, stress for D1 athletes can be quite high. Any bit of help the two families  could provide made the night worthwhile.

“My wife came with me too, so that was special to have my wife with me,” he added. “Mark and Danielle Herzlich – hopefully I said their name right – they’re the leaders there and we’ve become pretty good friends with them. So, it was good to partner with them and get to meet a bunch of BC athletes.

“Kind of just speak some life into them.”
