Bryant/Rhode Island Pro Day Recap: Colbert, Thompson and Shillingford among those who performed well

SMITHFIELD- A record 15 NFL and CFL scouts descended upon Smithfield, Rhode Island on Wednesday after for the annual Bryant Pro Day which features players from Bryant University and the University of Rhode Island. This year also featured former Bulldog Andre Brackett from UT-Martin and Jo Jo Marinella of Randolph-Macon College. Former URI tight end Caleb Warren also worked out.

We are going to recap the day by school and tell you who we thought helped themselves in this process.

Bryant: Two players really helped themselves at this pro day. Defensive tackle Darnell Shillingford benched 225, 33 times times and ran a 5.04 forty. He also had a vertical jump of 34 inches. At 6-0 288, Schillingford profiles as a shade defensive tackle who can play in any down or situation but he will best suited to play in sub packages. As one Bryant assistant told me he’s “Smart, a hard worker and he’s made a lot of money in the stock market.”

Wide receiver Anthony Frederick was expected to run one of the fastest forty times of the day and he did not disappoint running a 4.5 forty at 5-9 182 pounds. He had a vertical jump of 34.5. I thought he looked good during the on field work outs as well. He’s twitched up and can separate. He projects as a slot and kick returner at the next level.

Offensive tackle Trevor Smith came in at 6-4 290 and benched 225, 24 times. He ran a 5.34 in the forty but had a vertical jump of 30 inches. Smith moved well in the drills portion and has the body type to put on 20 more pounds and play inside as a guard.

Defensive end Kenny Dyson and offensive lineman Ahmad Assad each benched 225, 23 times. Dyson ran a 4.96 and had a vertical jump of 30.5 inches.

Wide receiver Matt Prochaska also had a great day and definitely helped himself. He ran a 4.56 forty, had a vertical of 36.5 inches and a broad jump of 9-10. At 5-9 171, he profiles as a slot kick returner as well.

Brackett had a good day running a 4.56 forty and benching 225 11 times. He had a vert of 33.5 and looked smooth and fluid in the defensive back drills.

Rhode Island: Cornerback Jordan Colbert stole the show. He benched 225, 18 times, ran a 4.56 forty and had a vertical jump of 39.5 inches. He had a broad jump of 10-5. As you can imagine, Colbert had a crowd of scouts around him after he was finished. As one talent evaluator told me. “6-1 214, with those numbers. He’s got a shot.”

Offensive tackle Lorenzo Thompson measured in at 6-6 307. He did not participate in the workout portion but he was impressive in the drills portion. He moved well and showcased the athleticism that made him one of the best offensive tackles in FCS football.

Linebacker Evan Stewart had a solid workout and tested well. He looked fluid and smooth in his drop and showcased his ball skills. He banged out 24 reps of 225 and he ran a 4.78 forty.

Quarterback Kasim Hill and wide receiver Kahtero Summers showcased their connection in drills. Hill told me he is working out at the Ravens local pro day on April 2nd. Summers is a big target at 6-1 209. He did 22 reps of 225 on the bench.

URI’s Kasim Hill delivers a pass in the drills portion of the pro day. Hill was the only quarterback there.

Guard Nick Correia and center Sebastian Delasoudas both moved well in drills and play with heavy hands when hitting the bag. Correia is your quintessential phone booth player. At 6-4 310, he can play center too.

Defensive back Jarrett Martin tested well, running a 4.58 and jumping 10.1 in the broad jump. At 6-1 210, he profiles as a third safety in sub packages and as a special teamer.

Running back Ja’Den McKenzie is a big back coming in at 5-11 236. He moves well in drills and caught the ball cleanly.
