Sad news to report out of the college football world as Dartmouth Coach Buddy Teevens has passed away at the age of 66.

Teevens died last night from injuries stemming from a bicycle accident in Florida in March.

Teevens played quarterback at Dartmouth and was the 1978 Ivy League Player of the Year.  He graduated from the school in 1979 and immediately entered coaching.

In a career that span over 40 years, Teevens was a head coach four separate times. His first head coaching job was at Maine.

After spending one season in Orono, Buddy returned to his alma mater where he led the Big Green from 1987 to 1991. Teevens then left to take the Tulane job. He led the Green Wave for four seasons. After leaving Tulane, Teevens would spend the next five seasons as an assistant at Illinois and Florida before getting another opportunity to be a head coach again at Stanford. After a three year stint in Palo Alto, Teevens returned to Dartmouth in 2005 as head coach of the Big Green.

Since returning to Dartmouth, Teevens has gained national acclaim for hiring the first full time female assistant coach in Callie Brownson in 2018 and helping to develop the Mobile Virtual Player (MVP) along with the Dartmouth Engineering Department. The goal of the MVP was to reduce player contact at practice and eliminate concussions.

Teevens had a career record of 117-101-2, including an 83-70-1 record in Ivy League play.

Coaches from around the country have shared their condolences for a man who was one of the most respected coaches in the game of football.

Buddy lived a great life and left a lasting legacy.

The Big Green is scheduled to host Lehigh on Saturday in Hanover. The school announced in a statement that the game will be played. “as Buddy would have wanted.”

The school announced that they will be honoring Teevens in the coming weeks and months.
