Coach: Brian McCray (2nd Year)
Key Players: OL/DT Asa Rosenmeie,r Sr.; WR/DE Brian Logan, Jr.; WR/OLB Chris Cogliano, Sr.; WR/CB Ben Williams, Sr.
Three observations: -The Marauders are in their second season with Coach McCray at the helm and after a 5-5 campaign to kick things off, Belmont believes it can become a contender. When the maroon helmets were strapped on and shirts that read “No Excuses, Just Results” made their appearance around 8:15 Friday morning, there was a great energy as warmups began.
-Belmont is young, but there is quite a bit of size and speed out there. Specifically, the lineman are all big and athletic, while the majority of the receiving group is tall and fast. That line will be led by Rosenmeier on offense and defense, while Logan, Cogliano and Williams are going to be factors with their speed on both sides of the ball. This is going to be an athletic team that might be hard to keep up with late in games.
-The Marauders aren’t shy about setting lofty goals either. With a Thanksgiving matchup against Watertown at a very special venue already circled (nothing official yet), that game alone may determine whether it was a successful season or not for Belmont. The team also believes it can compete in the Middlesex League’s Liberty Division and make some noise in the postseason.
Coach’s comment: “We’ve been really working hard in the offseason trying to prepare for the season and the kids have responded really well. One of our big goals this year…we play Watertown at Fenway for our Thanksgiving Day game, so that’s one of our big opportunities to win, so we want to beat them. Obviously, we want to make the playoffs and we obviously want to win the Middlesex League if we have the opportunity.
“We’re very young, we have six seniors on the team at this point, so we have all underclassmen. Couple guys like Chris Cogliano, Asa Rosenmeier, Ben Williams Jake Cornelius, Max Cornelius, Brian Logan…we have a lot of core athletes that are multi-sport players and we’re really excited to come out on the field and work.”
