New England is the recruiting center of the universe this weekend as Loomis Chaffee offensive tackle Olaus Alinen and St. John’s Prep athlete Joenel Aguero are set to commit to the schools of their choice.
Alinen has narrowed down his choice to five schools. Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon, Georgia and Miami. Alabama is the rumored favorite to land Alinen. Alinen has 45 total offers which is incredible. He grew up in Finland and has only been in the states for three years.
Aguero started his career at the Prep and then transferred to IMG Academy after his freshmen year. He made the decision to return hone after spending two years at the Florida school.
Aguero hasn’t posted a final list but many in recruiting circles believe Georgia is the favorite to land his commitment. He is scheduled to announce his commitment tomorrow morning at St. John’s Prep. Aguero holds 27 total offers.
Alinen is scheduled to make his announcement on CBS Sports Network and his Instagram page this morning. There is no scheduled televised announcement as of yet for Aguero.
The commitments of these two young men are not only big for them and their schools. They are big for New England High school football. They illustrate just how much legitimate talent is coming out of New England these days.
It is a big weekend for the region. One that will reinforce that schools play good football here and they produce talent.
Good luck to Olaus and Joenel as they make these life altering announcements.
