The Montreal, Quebec native has two years of eligibility remaining. He played in ten games in 2019 completing 150 of 260 pass attempts for 1,782, 9 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions.
Zergiotis played in three games this past season and completed 38 of 86 passes for 325 yards, 3 touchdown passes and 5 interceptions.
Merrimack Coach Dan Curran is excited about adding Zergiotis to the Warriors roster.
“Jack was a player we were well aware of especially after an impressive true freshman season at Uconn in 2019 He has big time arm talent and can make all the throws and he also has the ability to hurt you with his legs as well.”
Zergiotis’ performance against Holy Cross is what really caught Curran’s attention this past season and what ultimately led the coach to pursuing him when he entered the portal. Zergiotis completed 17 of 41 passes for 174 yards and 3 touchdown passes. He did throw three interceptions in the game but Curran liked the way he competed.
“What really sold us on him was watching him on film this past fall as we were preparing for our game vs Holy Cross Uconn had played Holy Cross the week before us and as you know they have an excellent defense and a tremendous front seven and they were getting after Jack pretty good But he didn’t flinch…. kid competed his tail off regardless of how things were going for him and his team. Says a lot about his character and his compete level.”
Zergiotis will compete to replace Westin Elliott. The Texas native had one of the best seasons in NEC history statistically throwing for 2,942 yards and 29 touchdown passes. Replacing that type of production will be tough but Curran feels that Zergiotis would be a good fit for the Warriors.
“We felt really good about adding Jack to our locker room, knowing he would be a great teammate in addition to bringing some big time playmaking ability.”
The addition of Zergiotis gives the Warriors stability at quarterback and his dual threat ability allows Merrimack to be more diverse on offense. Zergiotis should be on campus second semester and is expected to participate in spring ball.
