Vontae Davis retiring at halftime of Sunday’s game against the Chargers was the top story of the weekend.
Ten Thoughts on he week that was in the NFL.
1. If the Colts can find a way to run the football and play defense the way they did Sunday, they could be a playoff contender in the AFC.
2. Cornerback Vontae Davis quitting at halftime of the Chargers, Bills game makes sense when you look at the current state of affairs in Buffalo. For the record, I don’t agree with his decision.
3. So much for buying into Sam Darnold and the Jets. To quote The Who. We won’t get fooled again.
4. Yes. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are for real. No. I will not doubt them again this season. Kansas City might have the most talented skill group in the league.
5. The Steelers should just let Antonio Brown stew. He’s upset at his role and the team’s lack of success thus far. My advice to him? Calm down Tony. It’s only week 3.
6. The Packers should have beaten the Vikings but thanks to yet another lackluster defensive performance, they tied them. If Green Bay doesn’t start playing better on defense, they won’t make the playoffs never mind contend for a Super Bowl.
7. The Patriots were outclassed in every phase of the game by the Jaguars in Sunday’s 31-20 loss. On paper, Jacksonville is not a good match for New England. The Jaguars have an advantage along the offensive and defensive lines and in the secondary.
8. The Raiders choked against the Broncos on Sunday. You know why they chocked? They couldn’t consistently rush Case Keenum. Oh the irony.
9. The Giants are 0-2 and have been abysmal on offense thus far. New coach Pat Shurmur has not made the difference Giants fans were hoping for.
10. The Bears 24-17 win over the Seahawks was impressive. The game was not as close as the score would indicate. Chicago dominated from start to finish.
