Brandin Cooks was traded from the Patriots to the Rams on Tuesday in a blockbuster trade.

Cooks was considered a top ten wide receiver going into last season with an ADP of 21 but he failed to meet the lofty expectations fantasy owners had of him when they drafted him. Many owners drafted Cooks as a WR1 but he was far from that.

Cooks was drafted in the second round in a lot of drafts last season. The reason for that was the move to New England. Playing with Tom Brady meant that Cooks was going to put up WR1 numbers. Cooks did not do that.

Instead, he caught 65 passes for 1,085 yards and 7 touchdown passes. Those are good WR2 or flex numbers but not number one receiver numbers.

With the trade to the Rams, Cooks now has a chance to top those numbers and get back to the numbers he put up in New Orleans in 2016. He is once again the focal point of his team’s passing game. Cooks was just another guy in New England. Now he will be the guy in Los Angeles.

Playing with Jared Goff is a step down from playing with Drew Brees and Tom Brady but Goff is good enough to get Cooks the ball down the field. Coach Sean McVay loves to stretch the field off of play action and Cooks allows him to do that.

The move to Los Angeles will pay dividends for Cooks and fantasy owners alike. Cooks should go somewhere between the third and fourth rounds. He might not be a WR1 but he certainly is WR2 or flex.

There is no reason why Cooks can’t at the very least match his career slash line of 70 receptions, 986 yards and 7 touchdowns per season. He did last season in what was considered a down year. Cooks should easily top his career averages in Los Angeles.
