College Football: Bowl Previews and Picks for December 26th

Josh Rosen is not expected to play tonight in the Cactus Bowl.

Heart of Dallas Bowl: Utah vs. West Virginia (+6.5): This game should be similar to the Birmingham Bowl. It will be a back and forth affair and the team with the ball last, wins.

Both teams last three of their last five games down the stretch and finished their respective seasons on a down note.  This game will be a contrast in styles. Utah wants to pound the ball while West Virginia wants to spread it out and chuck it.

Despite an injury to quarterback Will Grier and Kyle Whittingham’s 10-1 record, I like West Virginia in this game. Quarterback Chris Chugonov will get the ball to David Sills early and often and the Mountaineers will win a shootout. I like West Virginia as a dog in this one.

Quick Lane Bowl: Northern Illinois vs. Duke (-6.5): Duke has lost three straight coming into this game so they have will have their hands full against a Northern Illinois team that took Boston College to the wire in their season opener and beat Nebraska.

For Duke, they need to get off to a good start and control the tempo early. If they do not, they will be in a dog fight against a Huskies team that has had success against teams from power five conferences.

I think Duke will win this game but I like Northern Illinois to cover as a dog. Sutton Smith and the Huskies defense will give them all they can handle.
Cactus Bowl: Kansas State (-6.5) vs. UCLA:  With Josh Rosen out with a concussion, putting the smart money on Kansas State makes the most sense in this game.
The Bruins just aren’t as good without Rosen and with a transition staff calling the plays tonight, it makes the most sense to put your money on the Wildcats.

This could be Bill Synder’s game at K-State. Synder is undecided about whether not to come back next season. If this is his last game, he will go a winner.
