College Football: Dime Package for Championship Weekend

Some thoughts on Championship weekend. It was a wild weekend mired in controversy.

1.The committee got it wrong! Alabama has no business being in the final four! I don’t care that they only have one loss. They played no one! Ohio State deserved to get in over them. They won their conference and they had several quality wins (Michigan State, Penn State, Michigan and Wisconsin). Don’t give me the Iowa loss. That is nonsense.

2.Beating a team twice is tough in football, let alone beating them twice in a three week span. That is why Georgia thumped Auburn.

3. Central Florida won the America East title game and earned a New Year’s Six bowl bid however the biggest winner in all of this was head coach Scott Frost. He honored his commitment to the school and he got a $35 million dollar contract to take over at his Alma Mater, Nebraska. This weekend was a win, win for Frost.

4. I still haven’t figured out how USC got blown by Notre Dame? The Trojans were pretty good this season as evident by the way they played down the stretch.

5. Oklahoma left no doubt that they were one of the best teams in the country after another convincing win over TCU.

6. That thud you heard last night Saturday night was Miami’s season. The Hurricanes finally crashed and burned. Mark Richt and his staff have a long way to go before the Canes can contend nationally on a consistent basis.

7. Boise State is still king in the Mountain West conference after beating Fresno State in the conference championship game. The Broncos aren’t the BCS busters they used to be but Bryan Harsin and his staff have kept the program in contention in the conference and that is all the faithful can ask for.

8. Who knew Jimbo Fisher had worn out his welcome in Tallahassee. A recent piece on ESPN.com details how the university finally had enough of Fisher and his demands.

9. Army is coming into their annual game against Navy with a better record. The Cadets are 8-3 while the Midshipmen are 6-5. Can Army make it two in a row? They are favored but this is best rivalry in college football so anything is possible.

10. It is that time of year. It is bitching season about bowl games. Bitch all you want naysayers, I don’t care! I LOVE IT!!! I am going to watch as many of the bowl games as I possibly can.
