Game Rewind: Thanks to a dominant performance by the defense, the Patriots were able to shut down the Bills offense en route to a 23-3 win. Running back Rex Burkehead was the star for the Patriots, scoring two touchdowns in the win.
Here my thoughts on the game.
1. Defense Dominates Again: The Patriots defense only gave up less than 300 yards of total offense and a field goal in yet another dominant defensive performance. They also knocked starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor out of the game with a knee injury. Buffalo ran the ball effectively but the Patriots secondary limited the Bills passing game to 115 total yards.
2. Ground and Pound: The Patriots had 191 yards rushing for the game, highlighted by Dion lewis’ 92 yards on the ground. Rex Burkhead rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns. The backfield combination of Lewis and Burkhead has given the Patriots some much needed balance during this eight game winning streak.
3. Gronk’s Bonehead Play: Let’s face it, Gronk spearing rookie cornerback Tre’Davious White from behind was bush league. Should he be suspended? No but he should be fined. What Gronkowski did was irresponsible, dangerous and stupid! He has to be smarter than that!
4. Brady’s Bummer: Brady only went 21/30 for 258 yards and an interception. It wasn’t a quintessential Brady performance but he did manage to break the NFL record for beating one team with his 27th win against the Bills and he passed the 65,000 career passing yards mark in the win. Somehow, Brady still finds a way to be the story.
5. Rematch in Two Weeks: These two teams will meet again in two weeks. Will Gronk be a target of the Bills defense? Who knows but what is considered a winnable game could now be emotionally charged.
