College Football: Thoughts on the Coaching Changes in College Football

I am been doing a lot of thinking lately in regards to the coaching changes in college football. I am Here goes.

1.Florida hired the right guy in Dan Mullen but he needs to land a dual threat quarterback in recruiting to make his offense work. Mullen must get five star recruit Justin Fields if he wants to have any shot of winning right away in Gainesville.

2. Speaking of Florida, Mullen convincing defensive coordinator Todd Grantham to follow him from Mississippi State to Florida is a coup for the Gators.

3. The situation at Tennessee is bad. The administration botched the hiring of Greg Schiano and they have been turned down by several high profile targets. If they don’t land Dave Doeren, it could be a while before they find the “right” coach in Knoxville.

4. Will Jimbo Fisher just take the Texas A&M job already! It is a done deal. Just go already!

5. If Fisher leaves, Florida State would be wise to call Lane Kiffin. He and offensive coordinator Kendal Briles have worked wonders at Florida Atlantic. FSU would be the perfect job for Kiffin, especially if he can land a high profile defensive coordinator. I know Alabama DC Jeremy Pruitt is the front runner but Kiffin makes more sense.

6. I had a UCF alum tell me that Scott Frost is torn about leaving Central Florida because he loves his team. Great. I still think he is leaving for Nebraska. His alma mater can pay him more money and the allure of turning around your college program will be too much for Frost to pass up.

7. Joe Moorhead was a terrific on field hire for Mississippi State but not having recruiting ties to the SEC could be a problem for him and his staff initially. Moorhead needs to hire a successful high school coach from Mississippi on his staff to break the ice with local coaches.

8. Herm Edwards getting the Arizona State job might be one of the dumbest hires in recent history. I know Arizona State athletic director Ray Anderson like offensive coordinator Billy Napier and defensive coordinator Phil Bennett but to hire Edwards, a man who hasn’t coached in college since 1989 is just flat out dumb!

9. I cannot believe Oregon gave Willie Taggert a $20 million dollar extension to stay at Oregon! That is crazy! He didn’t do that good a job this past season. There were some boosters calling for his ouster after the conditioning scandal.

10. Kevin Sumlin is a good coach and should be a candidate at either Tennessee or Florida State if it opens. I can see Sumlin not coaching in 2018 if he can’t get a head coaching job. He will do T.V instead.
