First & 10: Ten Thoughts From the World of Football

By John Sarianides

Football season is here! NFL training camps open up this week.

1. NFL training camps open up this week. Where did the last five and a half months go? Time flies.

2. The Cowboys and Cardinals have already reported because they are playing in the Hall of Fame Game in two weeks. Is it just me or do the Cowboys seemingly play in this game every other year?

3. The Patriots open camp on Thursday and expectations for this team are as high as they have ever been. You get the sense however that they are making one last run at it. This season has that feel to it.

4. Could this be Tom Brady’s last training camp as the starting quarterback of the New England Patriots? I don’t think so but you never know.

5. As expected. Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will open the season on the PUP list. This news isn’t really a surprise. Despite his progress, Bridgewater still has a long way to go in his recovery.

6. According to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, there is no evidence to suggest that Ezekiel Elliott was violent towards his ex-girlfriend. Of course Jerry is going to say this. What else is he suppose to say? I am going to let the legal process take its course before I cast judgement on Elliot.

7. Will Le’Veon Bell report or not report to Steelers camp? That is the question. I am going to say he doesn’t.

8. Georgia coach Kirby Smart might just be the best recruiter in the country. Why you ask? He just landed Zamir White. The number running back in the country in the class of 2018. Considering Georgia beat out Ohio State and Clemson among others for the North Carolina product is impressive.

9. Early names for the soon to be opening at Ole Miss. Chad Morris, Les Miles, Chip Kelly and Cowboys receivers coach and former Tennessee coach Derek Dooley

10. Alabama coach Nick Saban brings up a good point about the potential of high schoolers skipping their senior year if they are allowed to sign after their junior year. I think he is right. I think many high profile prospects will choose to sit out their final year of high school eligibility.
