2017 NFL Draft: Mock Draft 2.0

By John Sarianides

The Combine is in the rear view mirror and pro day workouts are in full swing. Here is my second mock draft as we get closer to Philadelphia.

1.Cleveland Browns: Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M: Is there any doubt the Browns are taking Garrett? He blew their doors off in Indy with an impressive workout.

2. San Francisco 49ers: Jonathan Allen, DT, Alabama: The 49ers like Allen as a shade nose tackle in their 4-3 defense but have concerns about his shoulder.

3. Chicago Bears: Jamal Adams, S, LSU: The Bears need an impact defender on the back end and Adams fits the bill perfectly. He can play all three downs and in a variety of situations.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars: Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU: Fournette’s forty time at the combine was enough to convince teams he is a top ten pick. Tom Coughlin wants the Jags to be a physical, down hill running team. Fournette will make them that.

5. Tennessee Titans, Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State: The Titans signed Logan Ryan last week and have Jason McCourty but you could never have enough corners in the NFL.

6. New York Jets: Deshaun Watson, QB Clemson: Watson was very impressive at the combine and as a result will go to the quarterback needy Jets at this pick.

7. Los Angeles Chargers, Malik Hooker, FS, Ohio State: Hooker will be out 4-6 months after having two surgeries. That would be enough to scare teams away but the Chargers need an impact player on the back end and the talented Hooker is the ideal fit.

8. Carolina Panthers, Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee: The Panthers re-signed Julius Peppers and Charles Johnson last week but traded Kony Ealy. They need to replace Ealy in their rotation and the super productive Barnett will be the guy.

9. Cincinnati Bengals: Reuben Foster, ILB, Alabama: Foster screwed up royally at the combine but made amends at Alabama’s pro day with a solid workout and interviews. Given his temperament, he would be an ideal fit in the Bengals locker room.

10. Buffalo Bills: Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan: After watching a bunch of film on Davis the past two weeks, I think he is a better prospect than Mike Williams. He will go before him as the Bills fill the void opposite Sammy Watkins.

11. New Orleans Saints: Tak McKinley, OLB, UCLA: The Saints anemic pass rush would get a huge boast with the explosive McKinley coming off the edge.

12. Cleveland Browns: Mitchell Trubisky, QB, North Carolina: The Jimmy G pick. If Cleveland can’t swing a trade with the Patriots for Jimmy Garoppolo using this pick, they will draft the Ohio native out of North Carolina.

13. Arizona Cardinals: Solomon Thomas, DE, Stanford: The versatile and explosive Thomas would be a steal for the Cardinals at this pick. He would provide a nice pass rushing complement to Chandler Jones.

14.  Philadelphia Eagles: Christian McCaffery, RB, Stanford: The Eagles addressed their needs at wide receiver by signing Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith. They will fill their need at running back with McCaffery who should be a great fit in Doug Pedersen’s version of the West Coast offense.

15. Indianapolis Colts: Garrett Bolles, OT, Utah: Bolles is athletic and technically sound. The Colts need to continue to re-tool their offensive line so for the second year in a row, they will give Andrew Luck more protection.

16. Baltimore Ravens: John Ross, WR, Washington: Ross ran a blistering 4.22 forty at the combine and followed that up with a solid pro day workout. The Ravens need to replace Steve Smith and Ross seems like a sensible fit.

17. Washington Redskins: Haason Reddick, OLB, Temple: Future G.M Mike Mayock loves Reddick so it only makes sense for the Redskins to draft the hybrid, outside linebacker, defensive end.

18. Tennessee Titans: Mike Williams, WR, Clemson: Williams will slip in this draft and the Titans are hoping he is on the board at this spot. Williams would give Tennessee a much needed number one receiver.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Forrest Lamp, OG, Western Kentucky: Lamp had a solid combine and reinforced the notion he is the best lineman in the draft. Lamp could anchor the Bucs offensive line for years.

20. Denver Broncos: O.J Howard, TE, Alabama: Denver has a solid skill group but they don’t have an impact player at tight end. Howard would solve that problem and complement Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders well.

21. Detroit Lions: Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan: Lions GM Bob Quinn is all about building from the inside, out. Charlton would give the Lions an elite run defender and an above average pass rusher with size.

22. Miami Dolphins: Jabril Peppers, S, Michigan: Peppers was impressive at the combine and reinforced the notion that he has the talent to be an impact player as a rookie.

23. New York Giants: David Njoku, TE, Miami (Fla): Njoku would be a great complement to OBJ, Sterling Shepard and Brandon Marshall in the Giants 11 personnel grouping.

24. Oakland Raiders: Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio State: After allowing D.J Hayden to walk in free agency, the Raiders need to draft a corner who can start opposite Sean Smith. The rising Conley has the physical tools to thrive in Ken Norton’s defense.

25. Houston Texans: Ryan Ramcyzk, OT, Wisconsin: Ramcyzk is a mauler in the run game and fundamentally sound in pass pro. He would give the Texans offensive line an attitude that they lack right now.

26. Seattle Seahawks: Adoree Jackson, CB, USC: Pete Carroll has a soft spot for defensive backs, especially ones from USC. The multi-talented Jackson not only fills a need at the boundary corner for the Seahawks but he returns kicks as well.

27. Kansas City Chiefs: Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State: Why not replace Jamaal Charles with his clone. Cook had a bad combine but the film tells a different story. He is a multi-talented home run threat who can touch the ball in a variety of ways. Cook would be a great fit in the Chiefs offense.

28. Dallas Cowboys: Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama: With Doug Free retiring, the Cowboys need a right tackle that can grow with their talented offensive line. The talented but underachieving Robinson would thrive in Dallas.

29. Green Bay Packers: T.J Watt, OLB, Wisconsin: The Packers need a cornerback more than an outside linebacker but the cornerback position is deep in this draft. Ted Thompson can pick up a couple later on. At this spot he will settle for the hometown favorite in Watt and add some juice to the pass rush.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers: Kevin King, CB Washington: King went from being in Sidney Jones shadow at Washington to now leapfrogging him thanks to an impressive combine performance and Jones injury. King has size and arm length, something the Steelers secondary desperately needs at corner.

31. Atlanta Falcons: Charles Harris, DE, Missouri: The Falcons need to find a pass rushing complement to Vic Beasley and the explosive Harris would serve as the ideal running mate opposite Beasley.

32. New Orleans Saints: Budda Baker, SS, Washington  The Saints got this pick from the Patriots for Brandin Cooks but they may end trading it back for Malcolm Butler. If New Orleans holds onto it, Baker would be a great pick because of his explosiveness and his ability to play all three downs.
