We had a chance to chat with one of the top signal callers in New England, Jareth Staine after his commitment to Stonehill.
Staine held several offers from other schools but chose Stonehill. He tells us why and he shares what went into the decision.
Here is our conversation with Jareth Staine.
NEFJ: What made Stonehill the right fit for you athletically and academically?
JS: “Stonehill just felt like home from the first time I visited. I really connected with the coaching staff and liked the direction they have for the program. Academically, they have strong programs and I know I’ll be able to get a great education while competing at the Division I level.”
NEFJ: What went into the decision? Who did you lean on when you decided to pick Stonehill?
JS: “It wasn’t an easy decision because there were a lot of things to consider. I leaned on my parents, my family, and my coaches at Springfield Central. They all helped me look at the bigger picture and encouraged me to choose the place that felt right for me.”
NEFJ: What have the coaches at Stonehill told you regarding future playing time?
JS: “They’ve told me that nothing is going to be handed to me. I have to come in, compete every day, and earn my opportunities. I like that because I’ve always believed in working for everything I get.”
NEFJ: How much of a role did your coaches and family play in the decision?
JS: “They played a huge role. My family has supported me every step of the way, and my coaches have always pushed me to be the best player and person I can be. Their advice meant a lot throughout the recruiting process.”
NEFJ: How much did Springfield Central prepare you to play college football?
JS: “Springfield Central prepared me in every way. The competition, the coaching, and the expectations were all at a really high level. They taught me discipline, accountability, and what it takes to win, and I know those lessons will help me at Stonehill.”
NEFJ: How cool is it to realize your childhood dream of playing Division 1 College Football?
JS: “It’s an unbelievable feeling. Ever since I was little, I’ve dreamed of playing Division I football. To see that dream become a reality is something I’m really grateful for.”
