According to FOX Sports College Football Insider Bruce Feldman. Patriots tight end coach Brian Daboll is going to interview for the vacant Alabama offensive coordinator job.
Daboll and Alabama coach Nick Saban have a lengthy history together. Daboll was a graduate assistant for Saban at Michigan State before Saban recommended Daboll to Bill Belichick for a quality control job with the Patriots.
Daboll has been a member of the Patriots staff for two separate stints. He was here from 2000 to 2006 and came back at the end of the 2013 season and has been here since.
The Patriots hold the Daboll in high regard. In fact, Josh McDaniels has allowed him to call the offense in a couple of pre-season games the past two seasons. I am sure the organization would prefer to keep Daboll.
Daboll has lengthy offensive coordinator experience with the Browns, Dolphins and Chiefs so he would be a tremendous hire for Alabama. Saban wants to utilize a pro-style, multiple offense so Daboll would fit the bill schmatically.
If Daboll were to leave, the Patriots would more than likely fill his position from within. Assistant quarterbacks coach Jerry Schuplinski could potentially move over. The Patriots hold him in high regard.
The vacancy could also be filled by a prominent outside candidate. His name is very familiar to Patriots fans. I think it is Chip something. Kelly maybe? I guess we will find out soon enough.
Either way you look at it, Daboll leaving for Alabama makes a whole lot of sense for him at this point in his career.
