Sunday’s 16-0 debacle at the hands of the Buffalo Bills is further proof that you cannot win in the NFL without a quarterback. Yeah…I get it. Jacoby Brissett is a rookie and he wasn’t healthy but its not like he put up “big” numbers against the Texans the week before.
Brissett and Jimmy Garoppolo did a great job in Tom Brady’s absence but now the GOAT is back and so is the heart and soul of the Patriots. With all due respect to Rob Gronkowski, Brady is the Patriots best player. Not only is he the Patriots best player, he is also the best quarterback in the league. Brady has always played with a chip on his shoulder. Now he’ll play with an even bigger chip on his shoulder.
Its easy to get caught up in the Brady tough talk around these parts. I could sit here and ramble about how I wouldn’t want to be the Browns and how Brady will exact revenge against Roger Goodell and the league by destroying them on Sunday but I am not going to do that.
Despite being the worst football team in the league, the Browns aren’t going to roll over and play dead. They get paid too you know. They’ll show up on Sunday. Hue Jackson has done a great job of making them more competitive despite their 0-4 record.
I expect Brady to play well but don’t be surprised if he is rusty early. There will be timing issues in the passing game. The Patriots offensive game plan will be more pass heavy this week but it wouldn’t surprise me if they still leaned on LeGarrette Blount more in the first quarter until Brady gets his timing down with his receivers.
Either way, Brady is back and the Patriots have their mojo again offensively. Now offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels can run the offense through the quarterback and not worry about scaling back. After three weeks of “getting by” the Patriots can start playing the way they like to offensively because the heart and soul of the team is back.
