Storyline: The Eagles travel to Ireland to battle ACC rival Georgia Tech in the Aer Lingus College Football Clsssic. Boston College needs to get off to a good start after a dismal 2015 season. There is pressure on Eagles head coach Steve Addazio. He made staff changes on both sides of the program to add some juice to the program. Here are three keys for Boston College in this game.
1. Towles Must Play Well: The Eagles brought former Kentucky quarterback Patrick Towles in to stabilize the quarterback position. Towles is experienced and has the physical tools to be very good in the Eagles offense. He needs to play well and help make the Eagles respectable again offensively. This game would be a good starting point.
2. Play Assignment Football on Defense: Georgia Tech’s Flexbone option offense is tough to defend. If the Eagles are going to slow down Paul Johnson’s vaunted offense, they must play assignment football. If any of the linebackers, safeties or corners are out of position, Georgia Tech will gash them.
3. It’s a Business Trip: It’s a business trip this weekend in Iteland. While all the extracurricular stuff is nice, the Eagles have to remember that they playing a game this Saturday and it’s a game they need to win.
Bottom Line: The Eagles need to get off to a good start this season. A win would allow the Eagles to get on a roll early on and build some momentum heading into a relatively easy September schedule wise.
