Patriots Pulse Blog: The Patriots Need to Shut Julian Edelman Down for the Week

By all accounts, it appears the Patriots may have dodged a bullet with Julian Edelman today after he was injured during a joint practice against the Saints

Edelman tweaked his surgically repaired left foot but according to sources close to the situation, it does not appear at this time that Edelman broke his foot again.

Sources close to the situation also reported that Edelman could return to practice as early as tomorrow.

Why would the Patriots do that? Why risk further aggrevation or injury by rushing Edelman back? It doesn’t make any sense. I would sit him for the week. There is no need for him to practice the rest of this week or play Thursday night.

The offense struggled without Edelman at the end of last season. The Patriots need him to be fully healthy heading into this season, especially the first four weeks. They cannot afford to be without him.

I know Edelman is tough but he needs to be handled with kid gloves. He’s too important to this team. The Patriots should take their time with him. If they have to sit him for the rest of the pre-season, they should!
