NCAA Football: Doc’s Bowl Predictions for January 2nd.

Could today be the final game for Christian Hackenberg in a Nittany Lion uniform?

I’m keeping it short and sweet folks. This is the last day of bowl season. I’m not over analyzing the match ups. To quote Bill Belichick, it is what it is.

TaxSlayer Bowl: Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Georgia Bulldogs: I don’t even know who is coaching Georgia with all of the departures. The Bulldogs are a mess right now. I’m taking the Lions in this one. It’ll be Christian Hackenberg’s last game and he wants to go in style. I think he’ll play well and the Lions will get a much needed win to build some momentum going into next season. I like Penn State in a tight game. Prediction: Penn State 28 Georgia 24

AutoZone Liberty Bowl: Kansas State Wildcats vs. Arkansas Razorbacks: Another fist fight in a phone booth. Both teams love to run the football and play physical. I think this will be a tight game all the way through but I think the Razorbacks are tougher and they are better defensively. Razorback running back Alex Collins could have a big day. I like Arkansas in what could be the most competitive game of the day. Prediction: Arkansas 27 Kansas State 21

Valero Alamo Bowl: (15) Oregon Ducks vs. (11) TCU Horned Frogs: Vernon Adams and the Ducks were playing about as well as any team in the country the last few weeks of the season. Now they face a TCU team that will be playing without quarterback Trevone Boykin after he got arrested on Thursday morning. I sense a blowout. I haven’t been very good at predicting these games this season but I have a feeling I’ll get this one. Oregon in a blowout. TCU plays good D but they can only keep the Frogs in this game for so long. The Ducks will roll. Prediction: Oregon 42 TCU 28

Motel 6 Cactus Bowl: West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Arizona State Sun Devils: Ahhhhhh yes. The last bowl game of the season will be the vaunted Cactus Bowl. It’s a de facto home game for Arizona State playing at Chase Field. Neither team plays great defense despite playing similar styles. Both however can score. I expect a shootout. The team with the ball last night might win this game. Im putting my money on Mike Bercovici and the Devils. I think they’ll beat the Mountaineers in a shootout. Prediction: Arizona State 42 West Virginia 38
