FOXBOROUGH – After a helmet-less walkthrough on Wednesday, the Pats were back in pads on Day 11 of training camp Thursday.
The muggy two-hour session was another intense, competitive back-and-forth as the ramp up begins towards a joint practice with the Colts on Tuesday before the preseason game Thursday.
Here’s how things went down…
-Will Campbell did not practice, despite being dressed. He did do some conditioning on the side, while Marcus Bryant took over for him with the first team at left tackle, not rookie Caleb Lomu.
-After the usual walkthrough an indy periods following stretching, it was on to the first team period…
Maye: Short run by Stevenson (x2), incompletion deep for Kayshon Boutte vs. Craig Woodson, check down to TreVeyon Henderson, short completion to Eli Raridon, short run for Stevenson, out to AJ Brown against Kobee Minor.
Tommy DeVito: Short run by Terrell Jennings (x2, no real gain on either one), good cut & run by rookie Jam Miller, sack by Quintayvious Hutchins, screen to Lan Larison.
Behren Morton: *Cool moment before practice as it looked like Morton’s parents were seeing him at camp for the first time. They posed for photos before he trotted back over to get warmed up* Run by Jam Miller, PBU by Peter Manuma downfield against Mitch Van Mooren, sack by Jesse Luketa.
Maye: Crosser to Pop Douglas, Stevenson stuffed by Robert Spillane, slant to Brown, incompletion after a check down, false start, run stuff Christian Elliss, incomplete deep post for Brown with Gonzo in coverage. These two jaw-jacked again all day and even almost had to be separated at one point. Ultimate example of good-on-good has been as advertised.
DeVito: Run stuff by Hutchins against Larison, rollout and completion downfield to Efton Chism III, Isaiah Iton run stuff on Jennings, Amari Ganer (probably?) a would-be sack, but completion to Boutte downfield.
Morton: Completion over the middle to Kobe Prentice (he burned Channing Canada), hard run by Miller, rollout and completion to Myles Montgomery.
-Indy/special teams period followed by some two-man route concepts down by the goal line right in front of the media tent. These are rapid fire so not a ton of details but here’s how every rep went down…
Maye: TD to Brown along the backline vs. Kevin Byard
Maye: Chism III drops a TD in the back left corner
Maye: Slant TD to Hunter Henry
Maye: Slant TD to Boutte vs. Marcus Jones
DeVito: PBU for Canada along the backline vs. Kyle Dixon
Maye: Slant TD to Kyle Williams vs. Byard
DeVito: Drop by Chism III in the back right corner.
Maye: PBU by Dell Pettus vs. Henry
Maye: Brown drops a TD vs. Woods
Maye: Slant TD to Raridon vs. Mike Brown
Maye: Mack Hollins slant TD vs. Gonzo
Morton: TD to Prentice against Brandon Crossley
Maye: TD to Henry vs. Pettus
DeVito: TD to Pop vs. Woods on a crosser
Morton: Td to Raridon vs. John Saunders Jr.
Maye: Raridon TD (did not see against who)
Maye: Gonzo PBU vs. Brown in the back left corner, 1-hand tip
Morton: TD to Chism III against Jones
-Team red zone period followed down the opposite end. Tough to see everything (especially when you’re 5’1″ on a good day), but did jot down TDs by Maye to Pop and a jump ball in the back left corner to Hollins.
-Situational work to end the day…1:20 on the clock, ball started around their own 35(ish)…
Maye: Short completion to Henry, short completion to Stevenson, great comeback grab for Brown vs. Gonzalez, clock, interception by Marcus Jones, interception to Kevin Byard. Defense (as you’d expect) celebrated heavily, especially on the second one in as many snaps.
DeVito: Interception to Saunders Jr. on the very next play. Practice wrapped up there.
