The move provides quarterback Jayden Daniels with a proven, high-caliber weapon on the perimeter while bringing the 32-year-old receiver back to his home state of Maryland.

Diggs spent the 2025 season with the Patriots, demonstrating that he remains a highly effective target despite entering the later stages of his career. During his single year in New England, he hauled in 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns across all 17 regular-season games, serving as a focal point in an offense that made a run to Super Bowl LX.

For Washington, the acquisition addresses an obvious need for perimeter depth and veteran experience behind star wideout Terry McLaurin. Throughout the early days of training camp, the Commanders relied on a rotation of unproven or slot-heavy options to fill out the starting unit.

Diggs instantly elevates the floor of the wide receiver room, giving defense coordinators another established threat to worry about opposite McLaurin and giving the offense a reliable playmaker in late-down situations.
