FOXBOROUGH – Kevin Byard has known Mike Vrabel for quite a while now. Romeo Doubs hasn’t, but he’s already all in with his new head coach.

Two of the newest Patriots met the media on Tuesday afternoon following another day of voluntary offseason workouts. Each Tuesday and Thursday throughout the spring leading into mandatory minicamp in a few weeks, the team has made new signees available.

All of them have raved about Vrabel.

For those that think the issues off the field may affect what some guys think about the second-year HC of the NEP, you simply aren’t going to get your wish.

The players are still all in with their head coach. Including the new guys.

“I love him,” Doubs bluntly said when asked about Vrabel. “Very energetic dude. Player’s coach. I know at some point in his career he’s played some really solid football here. Again, it’s rare that you get a head coach who obviously was a player in this league and worked his way to be a really solid head coach in this league.

“I’m just grateful and blessed to be around him.”

Byard echoed a sentiment of familiarity, with not too much changing after reuniting with his former head coach in Tennessee.

“The same old guy, honestly,” said Byard. “Same guy that I recognize from being back in Tennessee. That guy is full of energy, coaching the entire team, running back and forth from offense, defense, special teams. I don’t see a difference whatsoever.”

As football activities ramp up and the schedule gets unveiled this week, the more attention could (and should) turn to the defending AFC champions and not just their head coach.

Players new and old will continue to back him and in reality, the only support he truly needs is that of the locker room and the organization.

It doesn’t sound like that’s wavering anytime soon.
