Patriots Secure Roster Depth with Two Reserve/Futures Signings in Gutierrez and Mitchell

The Patriots are continuing to fill out the roster for the 2026 season by signing offensive tackle Sebastian Gutierrez and running back Elijah Mitchell to futures contracts. Both players are familiar faces in Foxborough, having spent time on the team’s practice squad during the 2025 campaign.

Gutierrez, 27, returns to the organization for another stint after briefly appearing on the New England practice squad back in 2022. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 308 pounds, Gutierrez has become a seasoned traveler in the NFL since entering the league as a rookie free agent out of Minot State with the Denver Broncos.

Gutierrez career path has included stops with the Raiders, Chiefs, 49ers, Browns, and Colts. While much of his experience has been logged on practice squads and in training camps, he has appeared in regular-season games for both Las Vegas and San Francisco, providing the Patriots with a developmental tackle who understands the rigors of the professional level.

The signing of Mitchell brings a more established resume to the New England locker room. The 27-year-old running back joined the Patriots’ practice squad late last December after a brief appearance with the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in the 2025 season.

Originally a sixth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2021, Mitchell was a significant contributor during his time in the Bay Area. Over 28 career games, including 12 starts, the 5-foot-10, 215-pounder has accumulated 1,523 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. His veteran experience and proven ability to produce at the NFL level offer the Patriots a reliable insurance policy and competitive depth in the backfield as they look toward 2026.
