On Friday, UMass announced Jared Keyte as the program’s new defensive coordinator. Keyte comes to Amherst after spending the past two seasons working with new coach Joe Harasymiak as the nickels coach in 2024.
Keyte served as the defensive quality control/interim defensive line coach in 2023. He helped the Scarlet Knights to back-to-back bowl games.
Prior to coaching at Rutgers, Keyte coached at the University of Maine from 2016-2022. He most recently served as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the Black Bears. He was the outside linebackers coach from 2016 to 2018 and helped Maine win the 2018 CAA Championship with a 7-1 conference record. Maine then advanced to the first Football Championship Subdivision national semifinal game in program history and finished the year with a 10-4 overall record.
Prior to Maine, Keyte was a defensive quality control coach at Rutgers in 2015, working with the linebackers. Before coming to Piscataway, Keyte served as a graduate assistant at Springfield College where he coached defensive backs in 2013 and worked with the linebackers, while serving as co-defensive coordinator in 2014.
Keyte began his coaching career at his alam mater Utica where he coached the quarterbacks in 2012. He was a four year letter winner for the Pioneers at quarterback.
Keyte is a native of Holland Patent, New York and has strong northeast ties which should help in recruiting.
