A familiar face is returning to the sidelines this fall for Springfield Central. Valdamar Brower is back with the program as associate head coach and defensive coordinator.
According a source, Brower will also be returning to the school full time as a special education teacher. Brower last roamed the Springfield Central sideline in 2021, leading the Golden Eagles to a Division One state title.
Brower left after that season to join Don Brown’s new staff at his alma mater, UMass. Brower assisted Ben Albert with the defensive line. He coached with the Minutemen in 2022 and 2023 before joining Dan Curran’s staff at Holy Cross last season as defensive line coach.
Brower took over as head coach at Springfield Central in 2008 and took the program to new heights. The Golden Eagles won their first state title came in the Division III against Tewskbury in 2018 and followed that up with another Div. III title victory against Duxbury in 2019. After making the move up to Division One, the Golden Eagles completed the three-peat with their win over Central Catholic.
Offensive coordinator Bill Watson took for Brower. The two first met in 2012 when Watson was the head coach at Putnam. Now they will get a chance to share the field together once again.
Springfield Central returns a talented group of players led by quarterback Jareth Staine and running back Isaiah Rogers. The Golden Eagles will be amongst the favorites in Division One once again.
