The Patriots host the Washington Commanders at Gillette Stadium. It is a must win game for both teams if they want to salvage their season. The Patriots haven’t had many favorable match-ups this season but this is a game where they do. Let’s see if they take advantage of them.

Here are five match-ups to watch in this game.

David Andrews vs. Jonathan Allen: Andrews will have his hands full against Allen who is quick, long and explosive. He can be very disruptive regardless of down and distance. The Patriots are going to have to get on their double teams consistently and try to root Allen out or else he will be a problem.

Guards vs. Daron Payne: Like Allen, Payne is tough to handle one on one. He can affect a game in multiple ways and has the potential to be a game wrecker. Staying on blocks longer will be the key against both Allen and Payne. If the Patriots want to have any success offensively today, they need to get movement on these guys.

Kyle Dugger vs. Logan Thomas: Logan Thomas is a tough match-up vertically, especially in the red zone. The Patriots will play a fair amount of man coverage today as they look to rattle Sam Howell with pressure. When these two match-up however, Dugger will be challenged. Winning one on one in jump ball situations will be key for Dugger and the Patriots.

Demario Douglas vs. Benjamin St. Juste: St. Juste is a longer corner for a slot defender. He is good one on one down the field and in jump ball situations but he struggles against quick receivers who can separate cleanly on breaks. Douglas will have an advantage underneath and to the outside so look for the Patriots to try and isolate him as much as possible today.

Mac vs. Commanders Secondary: The Commanders are 29th in the league against the pass. Mac Jones could have a good day at the office if the Patriots can protect him and he can make good decisions. Washington’s secondary has been generous all season long.
