5 match-ups to watch vs. the New York Jets

The Patriots host the Jets in the final game of the season. It has been a disappointing season for both teams and they will look to close things out with a win. Weather will be a factor, placing even more of an emphasis on match-ups and capitalizing on them.

Here are five match ups to watch.

1. Patriots defensive line vs. the Jets offensive line: The running game will take center stage as both teams will try to control the line of scrimmage. Stopping Breece Hall is tall task. He has been terrific of late and he is built to run in the snow with his size. Run fits, stacking and shedding blockers and getting multiple hats to the ball will be key.

2. Bailey Zappe vs. Sauce Gardner: Gardner is the least targeted cornerback in the NFL this season. I would not challenge him if I were the Patriots. They do not have a receiver who can separate against Gardner on a consistent basis, especially vertically. Attack the rest of their secondary, which is far more vulnerable.

3. Vedarian Lowe vs. Jermaine Johnson: Admittedly this will be a tough match-up for Lowe. Johnson is an explosive pass rusher who wins with speed off the edge. Lowe can handle speed to power guys but he has struggled with guys that can get on his hip and finish with speed. The Patriots will need to help Lowe in certain situations today.

4. Jonathan Jones vs. Garrett Wilson: The Jets will try to get Wilson the ball as much as possible. Having your best corner match up one on one makes this oner of the best match-ups of this game. Wilson only caught 5 passes for 48 yards in the first meeting. If the Patriots have their way, he will have a similar output today.

5. Steve Belichick vs. Nathaniel Hackett: The coaching match-up between coordinators is always a key and these two coaches will be front and center in today’s outcome. I do not expect a high scoring affair so play calling in key situations will determine the outcome of this game.
