The Patriots hit Denver for a Christmas Eve match up against the Broncos. The Patriots will play at Denver for the first time since a 41-16 Patriots win in a Sunday Night Football game on Nov. 12, 2017.
New England is 11-21 all-time in the Mile High City so like Miami, it has been a house of horrors.
Here are five match-ups to watch in this game.
1. Courtland Sutton vs. Jonathan Jones: Sutton has been the Broncos best receiver this season, especially of late. He is a tough match-up in the red zone. Wilson will look to him early and often so Jones will be busy.
2. Edge rushers vs. Garrett Bolles: The Patriots pass rushers face a steep challenge with Bolles who is good fundamentally and tough as a run blocker. Having a pass rushing plan against Bolles is key. Simply power rushing won’t be enough.
3. Alex Austin vs. Marvin Mims: Mims is explosive and has had a good rookie campaign for Denver. Austin will match up against him in most situations but the Patriots could also mix and match against Mims if they go three safeties in certain situations.
4. Patriots receivers vs. Patrick Surtain: Surtain is one of the best cover corners in the game. The Patriots will have to condense formations and use motion to create separation against him otherwise it will be a long night.
5. Payton vs. Belichick: Marquee coaching match-up here between two of the greatest coaches of this generation. It should be a great chess match, especially in certain situations. This game will be close and coaching could be the difference.
