5 matchups to watch in the Patriots-Bills game

The Patriots front seven will have their hands full with Josh Allen.

The Patriots are hitting the road one final time this season to take on long time AFC East rival, the Buffalo Bills. On paper, this is a tough match-up but the Patriots can compete if they play fundamentally sound and take care of the football.

Getting off to a good start will be key today but winning one on one match-ups will also be important.

Here are five match-ups that will impact today’s game.

Vedarian Lowe vs. Greg Rousseau: Lowe has struggled of late and he will need to play much better today if the Patriots want to consistently protect Drake Maye. Rousseau is a match up problem because of his length. He will challenge Lowe physically when he is engaged with Lowe. Lowe must sink his hips and play stronger when engaged.

Keion White vs. Spencer Brown: Brown is a tough match up because of his length but he is not a great pass blocker. White could have success as a pass rusher but he will need to win with a speed rush. He cannot engage physically. Once Brown gets his hands on you, he is tough. Look for the Patriots to use more TE stunts to free up White.

Patriots safeties vs. Kincaid & Knox: The Patriots safeties will have their hands full in man coverage against Buffalo’s tight ends. Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox create match up problems, especially when they are detached and moved around in formations. It is imperative that Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers not get out leveraged vertically. If they do, Buffalo will make a lot of big plays.

Front seven vs. Josh Allen: The front seven will have their hands full with Allen. It is a delicate balance. You have to rush him as a passer but you also have to be cognizant of his ability to break contain and scramble. Expect the Patriots to sugar rush him on the outside and spy him on the inside.

Christian Gonzalez vs. Khalil Shakir: Gonzalez may move around in this game but if he does not, I fully expect him to match up against Shakir who has been their best receiver this season. Gonzalez has been arguably the top corner in the NFL this season. He will have to lock down Shakir and force Josh Allen to look elsewhere.
