2023 Rhode Island High School Preview

The Rhode Island High School Football kicks off this week and as usual, the top programs in the state are once Bishop Hendricken, LaSalle, Central and North Kingstown.

St. Ray’s and Cumberland are among the favorites in Division Two but they will be challenged by Westerly and Portsmouth. Shea and Cranston West also figure to be in the mix and could surprise people.

Moses Brown is going to look to repeat in Division Three but Lincoln and Middletown could be a problem.

Divisional Breakdown

Division One- Rhode Island High School Football should once again be exciting as it always is. Division One features Bishop Hendricken, LaSalle, Central and North Kingstown. All four figure to be in the mix all season long.

Division Two – D2 is broken up into two groups. A and B. It is based on school size. Cumberland and defending champion St, Ray’s will be among the favorites in A. Westerly, Portsmouth and Barrington should be in the mix in B.

Division Three- D3 is also broken down into A and B. Defending champion Moses Brown should be the favorite with a solid core back. They will face competition from a good Lincoln team and Middletown, the team they beat in the state championship game. Rogers, Classical and Coventry could also make some noise in what should be a highly competitive division.

Division Four- Smithfield returns as the defending champions and they return enough of a core that they will once again be among the favorites. Exeter-West Greenwich/Prout along with North Smithfield/Mount St. Charles figure to also be in the mix but Smithfield is the best team in the division.
