As the transfer portal gets wilder by the day, a bit of a surprise came locally on Monday.

Bryant star quarterback and soon-to-be senior Zevi Eckhaus announced he was hopping in. Eckhaus – who was named the Big South/OVC Offensive Player of the Year – will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Eckhaus threw for 315.8 yards per game in 2023, finishing with 28 touchdowns and seven interceptions. In total, Eckhaus had 2,907 passing yards and kept the Bulldogs in playoff contention right up until the end of the season. In his career at Bryant, Eckhaus racked up 8,513 yards and 75 passing TD’s in just 33 games played.

Throughout the year, Bryant head coach Chris. Merritt repeatedly said that Eckhaus was the best player Bryant had and that the team would go as he goes. Now, as the program enters a new chapter as a CAA school, they’ll have some mighty big shoes to fill at the most important position on the field.

“Thank you to all of my coaches, staff and teammates that I’ve been alongside the past three years at Bryant,” Eckhaus wrote in a social media post. “I have made memories, bonds and relationships that will last a lifetime. I am extremely grateful for all that Bryant has allowed and given me the opportunity to do since arriving here.

“With that being said, I am entering the transfer portal with 1 year of eligibility remaining. I am excited for the opportunities and memories that lie ahead.”
