Patriots Executive Vice President Eliot Wolf met with the media prior to Sunday’s practice and answered questions on several topics, most notably the offensive line. Despite the unit’s struggle in training camp, Wolf is confident the team has the right guys in the building.
”Okorafor’s taking reps on both sides. Onwenu took some reps at tackle yesterday. Again, I think we’re just trying to find the right combination. We feel confident in all these players, and we’re just working to find the best group, rather than the best five individuals.”
Finding the right combination has been an emphasis at practice this weekend. The offensive staff have tried different combinations to find the right starting group.
Wolf was asked if the team would explore free agency to upgrade the offensive line, specifically at left tackle.
”We’re pretty comfortable with our group right now. Obviously, we’re going to look to upgrade on the offensive line or at any position, if we feel like we can. But I think we gave up one sack the other night. Again, it was Philly’s two’s, but it was an improvement to the practice on Tuesday. So, again, we’re just looking to see how these guys respond to adverse situations.”
If the Patriots were to add a veteran, the most prominent names currently on the market are David Bakhtiari, Charles Leno and D.J Humphries.
With cut down fast approaching, the Patriots will have some decisions to make regarding the offensive line. For now, Wolf seems content finishing out the preseason with what is currently on the roster.
