As NFL Combine workouts kick off Thursday with defensive linemen and linebackers going through drills, we thought it’d be a good idea to see where the nine players representing New England are projected to go in the NFL Draft.
Below is the list of local FBS and FCS guys that are in Indianapolis. These projections are according to NFLDraftScout.com. Of course, all of these could change over the next two months, with some guys raising their stock and others potentially falling a bit based on their combine and Pro Day performances:
Dylan Laube – RB – UNH – 7th round
Jalen Coker – WR – Holy Cross – 5th or 6th round
Kiran Amegadjie – G – Yale – 3rd round
Christian Haynes – G – Connecticut – 4th round
Christian Mahogany – G – Boston College – 4th or 5th round
CJ Hanson – G – Holy Cross – 6th round
Eric Watts – DE – Connecticut – 7th round
Elijah Jones – CB – Boston College – 5th or 6th round
Zak Zinter – G – Michigan (BB&N) – 7th round or FA
Mahogany, Amegadjie, Haynes and Watts are all pretty much locks to go on Day 2 or Day 3 at the latest unless something catastrophic happens during the combine and they just completely fail every test thrown at them, which is highly unlikely. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising to see all four of them move up a bit and possibly go early on Day 2.
Laube and Coker did the most for their stock early in the process with big All Star game performances, but this week and then on March 21st at the HC Pro Day could really elevate the both of them into Day 2 status. Zinter was well on his way to going earlier than later until the brutal injury against Ohio State. But, a big week from him this week should bolster his stock even more, he’ll go somewhere and flourish when it’s all said and done. Jones is the most intriguing prospect after some off-field issues ended what was shaping up to be a phenomenal season with BC. One NFL team could get a steal if they take Jones and he should have a pretty good week in Indy. Hanson is a bit under the radar, but expect him to put on a great show this week too. If all goes well he could end up a higher Day 3 pick.
There is some elite talent representing the area this week, tune into NFL Network if you get a chance and watch these guys take that next step in their journey.
